SUPER HARD
SUPER HARD,
SUPER HARD—the hardness of steel, the toughness of Kaohsiung.
Hardness invites collision; collision gives rise to new forms.
Beginning with the “hardness” of steel, SUPER HARD extends into Kaohsiung’s industrial culture, craftsmanship, and urban spirit. “Hard” refers not only to a physical property of the material, but also reflects the intensity of on-site creation and the hard-edged spirit forged by artists through repeated practice, technical skill, and experience.
Steel does not remain hard at all times. Heat softens it, force bends it, while cutting, welding, and forging gradually alter its original form. Through repeated encounters with the material, artists draw on skill, time, and determination to reshape what is hard, transforming it into art.
Five Taiwanese and Japanese artists from different generations create on site at Hamasen Railway Cultural Park. The sparks of welding, the sounds of machinery, repeated adjustments, and exchanges of technical knowledge together form the very site where the works take shape. Here, steel is a shared language among the artists, bringing technique, body, and experience into collision.
