Zhi-Min Chang (TW)
The artists explore the causes and impressions of humidity along the urban peripheries of southern and northern Taiwan. Through mixed media, they reinterpret the textures formed through the interaction between space and man-made landscapes, transforming them into tangible traces of moisture and sunlight. In doing so, they create a contemporary vision of the urban periphery that brings together the distinct textures of Taiwan’s north and south.
The exhibition unfolds through four media—short poetry, photography, painting, and sound—with Kaohsiung’s Yancheng District and Taipei’s Wenshan District serving as sites of field collection. Text evokes the lived memories of residents immersed in these environments, while photographs reveal the physical traces left by moisture along the urban margins, responding to the narrowness and accumulation found in overlooked corners of the city. Meanwhile, drawing on the material qualities of painting, the works bring forth the chemical reactions of dampness, drying, exposure to sunlight, and salinity, tracing the textures and passage of time. Sound further renders movement and soundscapes tangible, allowing the humid atmospheres of northern and southern Taiwan to converge and condense within the island.
