A Jian Space

About the Space

A Jian Space is an alternative space based in Yancheng, Kaohsiung, co-run by Wang Yi-Fang and Sung Hsiang-Pang. It approaches the operation of a space as another form of artistic practice, with curiosity driving each exhibition and project. Rather than defining itself through a fixed identity, A Jian remains open to change and to the possibilities that emerge along the way. It understands space as a fluid and active set of relations—a vessel for artistic practice, a site for dialogue, and a ground where differences can coexist and intersect. Like silvergrass carried by seasonal winds and dispersed through the movements of birds and animals, taking root again in new places, A Jian moves through the shifting spectrum of the contemporary in search of temporary coordinates—places to pause, encounter, and grow again.

《Driftroot》

Sujin Moon (KR)

The exhibition《Driftroot》brings together installations, sculptures, and performance-based works to examine how materials transform under different spatial and temporal conditions. Within these works, paper functions not only as a structural medium but also as a material that may deform, age, or gradually disintegrate over time, revealing its inherently temporary and cyclical nature. Such transformations are not signs of material failure but constitute an essential part of both the conceptual framework and the physical state of the works within the exhibition.
Through Driftroot, Sujin reconsiders the relationship between technology, production, and the natural world, exploring how humans might co-create with the environment through the continual processes of making and transforming materials, allowing the products of manufacture to move beyond serving a single utilitarian function. Rather than proposing a binary opposition between nature and technology, Driftroot treats material as a continuously shifting field through which viewers can perceive the ongoing negotiation between matter, time, and life.
